Speaker/Gay & Lesbian

This group has historic significance as its founding started the recognition of the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender recovering alcoholics. While most GLBT recovering people attended other meetings at the time, many experienced homophobia and heterosexist responses when they talked about
sexual orientation issues (gender identity issues were not openly discussed by anyone at the time of the group's founding-they were subsumed under the gay and lesbian issues category). Many GLBT people were uncomfortable discussing sexuality issues in "straight" meetings.
