Late in the year 1986 Clyde B. (sober since October of 1973) started announcing at meetings that he was starting a speakers’ meeting in our area.  He felt there were many discussion meetings and we really needed a speakers meeting.  The first meeting was to be held the first Sunday of January, 1987 at his restaurant in Rt. 302 in South Casco.

We arrived and there were about 12 of us including the speakers.  Of couple of weeks later, we had our first business meeting.  Clyde taught us a lot in those early business meetings.  He would often express an opposing view with a totally straight face, followed by his saying “only did that to make you dig into the traditions and the service manual.”

After meeting for three months (as suggested by the service manual) we, the seven members in attendance at the April business meeting, voted to become a group.  We finally had enough people to fill the trusted servant slots.  Those attending that meeting were Iris B., Clyde B., Galen J., Dan S., and Jane K.

We slowly grew and were very busy doing commitments.  With so few members we were all on the road all the time.

By the summer of 1990 (with the reputation of Clyde’s home made muffins having spread far and wide) we outgrew the restaurant and Margaret G., Janice B and Marcia B., were asked to find a new meeting location.  When they were looking into the Bridgton’s Road Alliance Church, the pastor, not knowing anything about AA, asked what we were and without blinking an eye or missing a heartbeat – Margaret recited the Preamble – the Pastor replied “Wow – I’ll speak to the board and let you know”.  We moved there September of 1990.

We have celebrated our group anniversary each year.  We have been blessed with steady solid growth.  We have taken our service work seriously and have tried to always be ready to extend the hand of AA to all who have reached out for help.  Whenever we have been asked to participate at workshops, Round-Up, etc. we have always had the attitude of “sure-when and where”. 

We now have a membership list of approximately 30 members and most all are active.
