God, Gerry B. and Phyllis C. started the Fryeburg Last Chance Group on October 3, 1986.

Two years later, on October 1, 1988, Last Chance officially became a group. We had four members at the time. Gerry B., Mary H., Kristin R., and Phyllis C. The meetings were held and still are, at the American Legion Hall on Bradley Street in Fryeburg at noontime on Saturday.

Gerry B. opened the meeting for a long time and then Mary H. took over. Mary H. recalls coming in and putting out a couple of chairs and making a small pot of coffee and maybe 2, 3, or 4 people would show up for the meeting. In the beginning years we were just a meeting and connected to the Fryeburg Wednesday Night Group and Phyllis C. was treasurer of that group and this meeting.

The meeting grew very slowly, sometimes too slowly for Gerry B. Some early members remember getting a phone call from Gerry B. at home just before noon time on Saturdays and he'd say-"Did you ever drink on Saturdays", of course the answer was always yes and he would then say-"Well then how about coming to an AA meeting and taking a little insurance policy out on your sobriety."

For many of us this was our first introduction to The Last Chance Meeting and most of us are still here and active in the group today.

Our group has grown to many active members. We have a GSR, Secretary, Treasurer, Raffle Person, Literature Person, an opener and a coffee maker. We are represented at District with a DCM #4 and many, many volunteers who help set up chairs and pitch in as needed.

We try to conduct the meetings using the Traditions as our guide. We hear through the grapevine that good old-fashioned AA is heard here with lots of recovery shared. As a group we are all really proud of our meeting and the special bond that has developed between us.
