The Women's Step Meeting was started in October of
1989 by Sue E., Kristin R., and Sandy K..
Our first meetings were held in homes. For about 10 weeks we met at
Sandy K. 's house and then moved to Kristin R's house. A member of the
community approached us at this time and asked us if we were
interested in using a conference room in his business and we moved the
meeting to the New England Tool and Cutter Grinder Building for a
number of years. The business was sold and Mary W. And Sue E. found us
a new home at the Fryeburg Health Care Center this year.
Our meetings have grown from just 3 women to a good size group of
10-15 and sometimes more each week. We have all found that the bonding
of women is very important in our AA program and we stay committed to
attending this meeting on a weekly basis. We get to know each other
very well in the meeting and when someone needs help we try to be
there for each other in the best way we know how, thru the practice of
the steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Our meetings are held on Tuesdays at the Fryeburg Health Care Center
from 5:30-6:30. This time was chosen originally so that our mother's
could be home with their children in the early evening.
The Women's Step meeting hosted the 50th Anniversary of AA in Fryeburg
on November 9, 2002. Sister Maurice (AA) and Sister Rose (Alanon) from
New York were our featured speakers. It was greatly attended and a
good time was had by all.
We became a registered group in 2003 and are represented by a GSR at
District #17 meetings and bring back the latest news to us.
